Gregg and I attended  the 100th IRIS Nights Lecture,  The life and body of work of Herb Ritts, at the Annenberg Space for Photography. David Fahey and Mark McKenna took the stage for the first time to discuss their personal and professional experience with Herb Ritts and his iconic photographs.

Design Inspiration through Film Art: Mon Oncle

http://topmovies.wordpress.com/

Movies provide great ways to get inspired. Film aesthetics have been referenced in numerous fashion collections and interior design trends. Here, I focus a  spotlight on the gorgeous French film Mon Oncle(1958.)

http://mademoisellececile.over-blog.fr/

The sets for the film, designed by Jacques Lagrange, were built in 1956 at Studios de La Victorine (now known as Studios Riviera), near Nice, and torn down after filming was complete

The main character, Mr. Hulot, is the dreamy, impractical, and adored uncle of young Gérard, who lives with his materialistic parents in an ultra-modern geometric house and garden (Villa Arpel) in a new suburb of Paris. Gérard’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arpel, are firmly entrenched in a machine-like existence of work, fixed gender roles, and the acquisition of status through possessions and conspicuous display.

Each element of Villa Arpel is representational rather than functional– an environment completely hostile to the comfort of its occupants. In choosing modern architecture to punctuate his satire, Tati once stated, “geometrical lines do not produce likable people”.

The colors used in the rock garden are absolutely stunning as well as absurd.

If you have not yet seen this movie I suggest renting it. Your eyes are in  for a treat!

Best Sunglasses: Are you Rockin’ Your Shades?

What are your favorites Shades? Clearly, on this beautiful sunny day in Venice,  Gregg and I– with our best Euro Buds, Amber and Leo– rocked our Persols.  It was a coincidence that we had fun with.

Admittedly, I’m a bit a of a Sunglasses Wh***(Gregg’s term for me).  But, who cares.  I love my shades but am not always stylin’ the Persol. Chrome Hearts and Gucci are also among my personal favorites.  The best though,  were a pair of Boucheron Aviators. They  were my favorite as I do have a problem:  I seem to have an uncontrolled desire to donate my stylish shades to airline cleaning crews and busboys.

Danile Craig wore Persol 2720S  in Quantum of Solace ….thank you CoolSpotters. If you’re in interested in finding what your favorite movie star is sporting these days, I found this site while poking around. It’s pretty cool. Celebrity Sunglasses Finder, believe it or not!

Chrome Hearts “Hung” model, a favorite of Karl Lagerfeld.  BTW..Here is a Wiki history of Chrome Hearts.  I think it’s interesting.

My personal favorite.  Boucheron Paris  Aviator  (See where I lost mine here)

Venice, Great Style , Great Window Shopping…. and My Ass in a Pucci

After the architecture, art, food and people of  Venice, my favorite distractions there were the the inspired window displays in the high- fashion district near the Piazza San Marco.  Louis Vuitton , Emilio Pucci and Burberry  were my favorites. I cannot get a certain Burberry Trench coat out of my mind!  It made even the headless  mannequin look hot. But what really caught my eye was what the stylists did at the Louis Vuitton window to conjur  images of vintage high-style, super glam 1960′s Italy (Where is Sophia Loren?).  An alluring sunset image, all behind glass reflecting the surrounding architecture was pretty cool…BUT…to use a model of a Vintage 1960′s Italian speedboat like Riva’s Aquarama…  stuffed with accessories, now that’s BRILLIANT.  BTW, check out Riva’s new vintage- styled speed boats if your A.D.D kicks in.

One perfect evening, after a great dinner with friends at the famous Harry’s Bar, we strolled  down the street and stopped to ogle the mannequins in the Pucci  window. We went back the very next morning…and I had to score a Pucci swimsuit after being lured in by the summer “saldi” (sale) 40% off.   I knew it would match the Aegean Sea perfectly…Now that’s what I call Mediterranean Blue!

One more thing….I came across this great Blog ….The Purse Blog  when searching for the Venice Louis Vuitton….Check it out!

Another way to stay up on things happening in your city is to grab a copy of your local newspaper. Local newspapers always have great ideas that are specific to your city. You should love wherey you live , and if you feel that your town is boring you aren’t digging deep enough!
