Online Design Magazines that WOW Us.

Here are some of our favorite Online Design Magazines.  They all have very beautiful layouts and are full of resources and ideas from decorating to travel to shopping and entertaining.  Save a tree and see how nice reading a magazine online can be.  Especially if you have an Ipad.  One of my favorite things about this, besides saving a tree,  is the interactive value of being just a click away from many new-found resources.

Hot off the Press.  Recently linked up with Lonny to bring us another online delight.

High Gloss:  A guide to a well-lived life…. glamorous, modern, and chic. Loves high style, but can’t resist a good sale.  Constantly searching for inspiration,  even if it means scouring the globe. Embracing change but loves old favorites.  Loves to entertain with good food, a beautiful table setting, and even better friends.  It’s all about the mix: high mixed with low, bold mixed with neutral, modern with classic, masculine with feminine.

Anthology, online design, magazine, interior design, chic, design, design sponge, rue, trad home, lonny, high gloss, flipboard, app, ipad, adore,

Anthology: A shelter and lifestyle magazine that takes a narrative approach to its coverage of home decor, travel, design, entertaining, and culture.

And if you do have an Ipad, I hope you know about Flipboard, a great app for reading your favorite Mags and Blogs.

….Picks for The Day…

nordhaven, bali, the viceroy, luxury travel, travel, puma, dolce & gabbana, men's shoes, men's accessories, silver, artisans, jungles, helicopter tours, yoga, dolce and gabanna,

1.  Nordaven 63. Someday. Enough said.   2.   Dolce & Gabbana.  Chic, Simple and Clean. Well, maybe not always “clean”.  3. John Hardy has a wonderful line of unique designer accessories applied from the traditional Balinese techniques for men (for women, as well).  A leader in sustainable luxury in more ways than one. One example being the Bamboo Agro Forestry Pilot Project. Last year  the company donated 600,000 bamboo seedlings to the Bali Green and Clean Event.  View the full story here 4. A place sure to make your jaw drop.. Bali. The jungles of Ubud are an amazing backdrop to the local artisans and a wonderful place to find your peace with some yoga and meditation.  There are a great number of fantasy places to stay in Bali, The Viceroy is one.  They offer a number of helicopter tours that take you above the heavens to look down on the landscape of rice fieldsjungles and turquoise waters.   5. El Ray Slip on Shoes, or almost anything Puma.  I see some themes running through these picks today..

Recently, we were in touch with a friend, and well- loved local preschool teacher,  who moved to Washington D.C. to pursue her Masters in International Relations.  We found she has taken her love of kids with her and is now interning with Good Weave, an organization working to end child labor in the carpet industry and to offer educational opportunities to children in South Asia.

1. Here’s a good start: Choose Organic or, even better, Bio-dynamic Wines.  Read more at Real Simple/Blog.           2. Support Clean beaches by buying a T-Shirt made out of beach trash. Featured at Art Basil Miami, these organic-cotton Loomstate T-shirts by Barbara de Vries are available exclusively at Barney’s Co Op via Ecouterre.            3. Plant a tree, or spend more time in one.  See amazing eco tree house or this Family Tree House in Mission Hills by Salfdie Rabines via Re-Nest.  There are more great inspirations of tree house designs at Inhabitat.         4. Yoga is a Hindu word that means union. Traditionally, it refers to that mind-body-spirit connection that we seek, in a world where mass-produced items often harm our health and the environment. It’s really key to make sure our  gear is in line with that union.”  says Feel Good Style     5. If you are feeling over the top or just looking for a new vehicle, the Phoenix is the first biodegradable car.  This elegant roadster was made in 10 days from bamboo and rattan by Kenneth Cobonpue and Abrect Birkner.  See more about it at Inhabitat.         6.  Buy Recycled Goods like this Recycled Penta Lamp by Luca Casarotto via Yanko design.

See a Green Roof on our Net Zero, Platinum LEED Beach House project here.

Three Reasons We Decided to Book A Cruise

Honestly,  John  and I are not really “Cruise Ship” people but it seems that we have actually booked a cruise this summer to celebrate my bla bla big birthday.

The first reason:  It is a relatively cheap way to see a part of the world that we have always wanted to see. When you add up hotels, food, and travel from location to location to go from Venice to the Dalmatian Coast in Croatia and a few Greek Islands ending in Athens it’s simply more efficient and cheaper to do it on a cruise ship.

We picked Seabourn,  a well- known Luxury Cruise Line with smaller very luxurious ships. In fact, they call them yachts. As John and I are very interested in yachting, we will be able to enjoy the ports of call on this cruise almost as if we were on large private yacht. We certainly will be able to enjoy the fantasy we see as we arrive at these glamourous harbors. Plus, we’ll enjoy the loads of toys and fun off the stern even when at anchor.
